Delight's Cabaret
A neon sign advertising new girls, new food and a hiring notice, all at once. Port Gellhorn in a single marquee.
Delight's Cabaret appears in the Port Gellhorn material: a pink and green neon frontage at night, with a changeable-letter marquee below it and police vehicles outside.
The marquee is the joke
The sign advertises new girls, new food and hiring dancers, on the same board, at the same time.
That is a complete character sketch of a business in about nine words. A venue promoting its menu alongside its dancers is not doing well. A venue advertising vacancies on its own street sign is doing worse. Rockstar has told you the entire economic condition of the region without a line of dialogue, and it is funnier than a joke about it would have been.
Why the sign type matters
A changeable-letter marquee is a real and specific piece of equipment, and it carries information the building cannot. Somebody has to climb up and set those letters by hand, which means the message is current, and which means every message is a decision made this week rather than when the place was built.
So the neon tells you what the business was aiming at and the letter board tells you where it actually is. Rockstar has used one sign to date the business twice, in two different tenses, and the gap between them is the whole joke.
It also explains why the hiring notice sits alongside the food. Nobody printed that. Somebody chose it, ran out of board, and put it up anyway.
The contrast that makes it work
Compare it to the Jack of Hearts in Vice City, which has pink neon, a stage, a crowd and an owner with a property portfolio. Same category of business, two hundred miles and an entire economy apart.
That comparison is the clearest evidence available that Leonida is not one place with regional skins on it. The same industry looks completely different depending on where in the state you find it, and the difference is not cosmetic: one is a front attached to a supply chain and the other is a building trying to stay open.
It is the same argument the Starlet Motel makes a few frames away, which suggests Port Gellhorn has a thesis rather than an art style.
The police outside
There are police vehicles in the frame. Rockstar has not explained why, and it would be a mistake to build a story on it. Worth noting, not worth theorising about.
What is not known
Whether it is enterable, whether it appears in the story, who runs it, and whether the police presence in the screenshot means anything at all.
