Jason Duval
Playable protagonist. Grew up around grifters, did a stint in the Army, and came out of it working for drug runners in the Leonida Keys.

Jason is one of the two playable leads. Rockstar's framing is that he grew up around grifters and crooks, served in the Army, and came back into the same orbit he left, working for drug runners in the Leonida Keys.
He is the steadier half of the pair on paper, which is not the same as being the more cautious one. The screenshots give him scarring, knuckle tattoos and a wardrobe that has clearly been worn rather than assembled.
In debt before the story starts
He rents nothing. Brian Heder, an old smuggler running a boat yard, lets him stay on the property. That is a generous arrangement on the surface and an obligation underneath it, and it means Jason owes somebody before the player has pressed a button.
It is a deliberate piece of setup. Grand Theft Auto protagonists usually arrive with nothing and build outward. Jason arrives already inside somebody else's operation, living on their land, which narrows his options in a way that being broke does not. When Brian turns up as the man who knows somebody who needs a job doing tonight, there is not much room to say no.

The Army background
Rockstar has referenced military service without detailing it. The series has been here before and has usually used it as shorthand for competence rather than as a subject in itself. Whether Grand Theft Auto 6 does anything more with it than explaining why Jason can handle a rifle is unknown.
What the footage does show is a man who is composed under pressure in a way Lucia is not asked to be. The rain-soaked hood shot and the fence sequence both frame him reacting rather than initiating.

How he plays
Like Lucia, Jason carries his own Criminal Profile, which tracks how he operates rather than scoring him on a morality scale. The two profiles are separate, so the pair can diverge based on how you use each of them.
He is also a tracked item in the evidence system when he is the partner rather than the character you are controlling, which makes the other half of the pair a liability as well as a second gun.

What is not known
His voice actor has not been confirmed by Rockstar, which has never published a cast list for this game. How the relationship with Lucia develops, whether it can break, and what he wants beyond getting out from under the Keys have all been kept back.
