'95 Grotti Cheetah

The Cheetah returns as a mid-nineties Grotti with a retro-futurist livery, and it is the headline vehicle of the Ultimate Edition.

The Cheetah is one of the oldest names in Grand Theft Auto and it comes back here as a 1995 Grotti, described by Rockstar as the manufacturer's signature mid-nineties sports car, finished in a minimalist retro-futurist livery.

It is the headline vehicle of the Ultimate Edition, which is worth stating plainly: this is not a car everyone gets.

What the shots show

White bodywork with red striping, pop-up headlamps, a slatted engine cover and a deep rear diffuser with quad lights. The interior shot shows a red cabin with a squared-off wheel and a very period dashboard.

The first image places it directly outside the Pagasi residences, which is a deliberate bit of staging. Rockstar has parked its most expensive bonus car in front of the most expensive-looking address it has shown.

Where it comes from

The Cheetah has been in the series since the 3D era and has always been the Ferrari-shaped one. The original was a Testarossa in everything but the badge, which is exactly the car that defines the period Vice City is nostalgic for, and Grotti has been Rockstar's Ferrari analogue ever since.

Choosing 1995 rather than 1986 is the interesting decision. It puts the car a decade after the original Vice City's setting, which makes it a used supercar in a modern-day game rather than a period piece. That is a more Florida object than a brand-new hypercar would be.

What is not known

No performance figures have been published, and Rockstar has not said whether a non-bonus Cheetah exists in the base game. Given the model's history in the series, some version of it almost certainly does, but the '95 with this livery is the Ultimate Edition car.
