Clear the space now
Estimates put the download at 150 to 200GB and Rockstar has published no figure. Clearing 200GB on a console is an evening's work if it means deciding what to delete, and it is a lot less annoying to do it in October.

Know which edition you bought
The Ultimate Edition does not unlock all at once, and the physical edition has no disc in it, only a code. Both of those surprise somebody every launch.

Preload on 12 November, not on the night
The window is a week long for a reason. A 200GB download at midnight, on the same evening as everyone else on your street, is the one avoidable way to miss your own launch.

Mute the obvious words on the 18th
The rolling unlock means the opening hours of the story are on social media before large parts of the world can start. Muting GTA 6, GTA VI, Jason and Lucia covers most of it.

Do not expect online
Grand Theft Auto 6 ships as a single-player game. There is no GTA Online at launch and Rockstar has not announced a date for one.

Why the unlock is strange this time
Local midnight is the single most misread fact about this launch. It is not a worldwide countdown to one instant. It is midnight travelling west around the planet, so Auckland is playing while London is asleep and Los Angeles is still at work the previous afternoon. The spread from the first zone to the last is about twenty-three hours.
That is why the list above lights up gradually rather than all at once, and why the honest answer to whether the game is out, for most of a day, is that it depends where you are standing.
