Does your GTA Online money carry over to GTA 6?

Rockstar has not said no. Rockstar has said nothing, and about the one feature everybody is asking for, silence is its own kind of answer.

Short answer: nobody has told you. There is no announced character transfer, no announced money transfer, and no statement in either direction.

That is a genuinely unsatisfying answer, so it is worth being precise about what is actually known, because the gap between *not announced* and *ruled out* is where most of the bad information about this lives.

What is at stake, for a 2013 player

Twelve years of GTA Online is a lot of accumulated property. The garage and every car in it. The businesses: the nightclub, the bunker, the arcade. The rank. For anyone who started near release, that is not a save file, it is a decade of evenings.

None of it has been promised a route into the new game.

Rockstar has not said no. Rockstar has said nothing

This is the distinction that matters and it keeps getting flattened in both directions.

There is no Rockstar statement confirming a transfer. There is also no Rockstar statement ruling one out. Anybody telling you it is confirmed, and anybody telling you it is definitively dead, is filling in a blank that Rockstar has left empty.

What can be said is that in this industry, silence about the single feature an audience is loudest about is not neutral. Rockstar answers questions it wants to answer. This one has been available to answer for a long time.

The precedent, stated precisely

Here the detail is worth getting right, because the popular version of this argument is wrong in a small way that matters.

Rockstar has carried GTA Online characters between platforms, more than once, when players changed console generation. So the claim that Rockstar never migrates anything is false.

What Rockstar has never done is carry a character from one game into the next. Not GTA 4 to GTA 5. Not Red Dead Redemption to Red Dead Redemption 2. Every previous transition started everyone at zero.

So the precedent is not about technical capability. It is about a consistent editorial choice: a new game begins a new economy.

What has actually been signalled

Something much smaller than a transfer. The shape of it, as reported, is recognition tied to your Rockstar account: an acknowledgement that you were there and what you did, rather than a deposit of your balance.

Read that as a nod rather than an inheritance. It is also not confirmed in any detail, which is why this article is labelled Unconfirmed rather than Reported.

There is also nothing to transfer into yet

Easy to lose in the argument: GTA 6 ships on 19 November as a single-player game. There is no online mode announced, no name for one, and no date.

A transfer needs a destination. Until an online mode exists, the question is not merely unanswered, it is premature.

What to do with that

Nothing dramatic. Do not sell anything, do not spend down a balance on the assumption it evaporates, and do not grind for a carry-over that has never been promised.

Play GTA Online because you enjoy GTA Online. If a nod arrives later, it arrives as a bonus rather than as the thing you were working towards. We will update this page when Rockstar says anything at all, in either direction.
