The Leonida map, and the fan project mapping it
Six confirmed regions, no official map release, and a community effort triangulating the whole state from trailer footage.
Rockstar has not released a map. What exists is six confirmed regions and a scale comparison given during previews: Leonida is roughly three times the size of the Red Dead Redemption 2 world, with Vice City alone around twice Los Santos.
The six regions
- Vice City, the modern Miami at the centre of it
- Leonida Keys, the resort coastline
- Grassrivers, the Everglades wetland
- Port Gellhorn, the faded holiday coast
- Ambrosia, the industrial interior
- Mount Kalaga National Park, the remote high ground
What the scale figure actually means
Three times Red Dead Redemption 2 is a headline number and it needs handling carefully. Red Dead's world was mostly empty by design, because it was a game about distance and travel time on a horse. Tripling that area in a game with cars in it does not triple the content, and a very large map with a fast vehicle on it can feel smaller than a compact one on foot.
The figure worth more attention is Vice City being around twice Los Santos, because dense urban space is the expensive kind to build and the kind players spend their hours in.
The community mapping project
Since 2022, fans have been reconstructing the map from official material. The method is triangulation: line up multiple identifiable landmarks in a single shot and you can work out roughly where the camera was standing. Do that across every trailer, screenshot and promotional image and a coastline starts to emerge.
It is forensic work on official media rather than anything leaked, and thousands of people have contributed. Two efforts are worth your time:
- State of Leonida at map.stateofleonida.net, a single best-guess assembly of the full map.
- VIMAP, a community hub created by Saam.exe that aggregates and curates map layers contributed by thousands of mappers.
Both are fan projects run by the people who built them. We link rather than reproduce, because the work is theirs.
What is not known
No official map has been published and none is likely before release. Region borders, the road network and whether the six named regions are the complete list are all open questions. Any map you see presented as final is a reconstruction.
