The Extended Look

August 2026. Twenty-six minutes of gameplay captured on a base PS5, and the first time anybody saw how the game actually works.

Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look went out on 27 August 2026, premiering on Netflix at 3pm Eastern before arriving on Rockstar's own YouTube channel six hours later. It peaked just under four million concurrent viewers, making it the biggest gaming stream of the year.

Rockstar states it was captured entirely in-game on a base PlayStation 5 rather than a Pro or a PC.

Why it matters more than both trailers combined

It is the first time anybody saw the game work. Almost everything on this wiki's mechanics pages comes from these twenty-six minutes:

How it opens

On a phone call. Raymond, running drug production for San4San, takes a call from a man named Ernesto warning him that police are on their way, framed as a favour from somebody with friends in the department.

Opening the longest piece of gameplay footage you will ever release on a betrayal rather than a car chase is a statement about what kind of story this is.

The commercial effect

UK console sales rose in the following week by 33% for PS5 and 34% for Xbox Series X and S, which is a rare case of a trailer visibly moving hardware for a game that is not exclusive to either platform.

What is not known

Rockstar has not published a breakdown of what was shown, and a great deal of the systems detail comes from outlets reporting on the footage rather than from on-screen text. Where this wiki relies on that, the page says so.
