Vice City Port

Containers, cranes, warehouses and industrial bridges. Visible in both trailers, and the obvious way a great deal of product enters Leonida.

A working shipping port sits on the Vice City waterfront: container stacks, gantry cranes, warehouse rows and the industrial bridges that connect them. It appears in both official trailers.

Why every Grand Theft Auto map has one

Ports do three jobs in these games at once. They are where things arrive, which makes them the natural setting for a job about a shipment. They are enormous flat spaces full of hard cover, which makes them good arenas. And they look like work, which balances a map otherwise weighted toward beaches and nightclubs.

Grand Theft Auto V's Port of Los Santos and Grand Theft Auto IV's docks both did exactly this.

The real one

PortMiami is one of the largest cruise ports in the world and a significant container terminal, sitting on a man-made island directly across from downtown. That geography is unusual and useful: the industrial estate is a bridge crossing away from the towers and the nightlife rather than banished to the edge of the city.

It is also, historically, one of the principal reasons Miami became a centre of smuggling. Volume is cover. A port moving that many containers cannot inspect all of them.

How it fits the story

The game already has a smuggling economy running through the Keys on small boats, and a drug production and distribution chain in the city through Raymond and Boobie Ike's club. A container port is the third scale of the same business, and the one that carries weight rather than parcels.

Rockstar has not connected them on the record. The geography does it for them.

What is not known

Whether the port is enterable and playable or a skyline element, whether it features in the story, and what it is called in-universe beyond the descriptive name in circulation.
